The AdAmAn Club

Since 1922, members of the AdAmAn Club have climbed Pikes Peak on New Years Eve to set off fireworks to ring in the New Year.

On a clear night, the fireworks can be seen for hundreds of miles. Of course, if there is a blizzard, the climbers will freeze their butts off in survival conditions. (I didn't say the members of the AdAmAn Club were necessarily the brightest citizens of Colorado Springs ... although lighting off fire works at high altitude is a form of rocket science ... when you consider it.)
