Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is a worldwide effort headquartered in Colorado Springs that gives students exposure to the free market system.

The Junior Achievement Archive (1916-2002, Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives, IUPUI University Library, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) traces the concept for Junior Achievement to the Eastern States Agricultural and Industrial Exposition of 1916. The organization was founded in 1919 with the name Boys' and Girls' Bureau of the Eastern States League. The organization established its headquarters in Springfield, Ma and changed its name to Junior Achievement Bureau in 1920. It changed its name to Junior Achievement, Inc. in 1926. Junior Achievement eventually relocated its headquarters to Colorado Springs in 1987.

Junior Achievement works as an after school program in which students form a business structure and engage in the production and selling of products. Junior Achievement helps develop children problem solving skills directly related to the real world.
